84 days ago, Papa (my dad) and I sat on the rainy banks of Ganga, completely bald save a small knot of hair at the top back of each of our heads, the rest lying at our feet. According to our Hindu tradition, men in the family shave their heads after the passing of an elder, marking a period of mourning and remembrance and instilling humility for the soul’s next journey. Om. Two days ago, my dad lost his eldest brother – my Badepapa – to COVID, in India. I want to share my stories of one of the kindest and happiest people I was blessed to be loved by – someone that loved despite suffering an extraordinary allotment of life’s pain.
The fact that organized religion (as an independent truth, or answer to questions of purpose and meaning) doesn’t allow for questioning, and the consequence that most religious people use this fact to reaffirm their beliefs… Faith, by definition, is bridging the evidence gap to believe in something.
